Broadmoor Neighborhood in New Orleans

Broadmoor Neighborhood in New Orleans

Covering a pretty big swath of New Orleans and bounded by Central City and Uptown, the Broadmoor neighborhood is making a comeback in the New Orleans real estate market.

Stretching from South Claiborne to beyond South Broad, it’s a large area with some of the most interesting 1930s and 1940s architecture – a definite departure from the traditional New Orleans styles. Predominant home types are cottages, arts and crafts influences and raised basements. Most homes have off street parking and the lots in Broadmoor are big enough that some large homes even have garages.

A lower lying portion of New Orleans, Broadmoor homes will require flood insurance for any mortgaged purchases.

The Broadmoor walk score is 68 (some errands can be done on foot) and the Bike Score is 68 (somewhat bikeable). Most residents rely on cars or public transportation for their daily activities, unless they live close to S. Claiborne Avenue.

From the Broadmoor Improvement site:

The Louisiana Legislature created the Broadmoor Improvement District (BID) in 2010 in order to ensure the continuation of the Broadmoor Improvement Association’s (BIA) quality-of-life programs and projects. The Improvement District collects an annual $100 parcel from each homeowner. The publicly-elected Board Commissioners votes on a budget annually and disseminates funds to various neighborhood projects, partner organizations and initiatives.
