Bywater New Orleans
One of the most colorful neighborhoods in the city, the Bywater New Orleans community (also known as the Upper 9th Ward) has experienced rapid growth and revitalization over the last few years because it escaped major flooding during Katrina. As properties have been renovated, the exterior paint color selections are bold and vibrant, with a nod to Caribbean influence.
The predominant architecture is the Creole Cottage, with Victorian touches in trim and details.
Depending on where in the Bywater you’re located, it’s quite the walkable and bikeable neighborhood. That’s a good thing, since parking can be a challenge because most homes don’t have off street spaces. And garages? Not gonna happen here.
There’s a large neighborhood park (Crescent Park) that runs along the Mississippi River and offers a dog run, bike paths, pavilions, and free weekly fitness classes on the wharf.
Walk score = 80
Bike score = 92
