Freret New Orleans

Freret New Orleans Market

Freret New Orleans Neighborhood

Part of the Carrollton area in Uptown, the Freret New Orleans neighborhood is bounded by S. Claiborne, Napoleon, LaSalle and Jefferson.

Named for William Freret, a 19th century mayor of New Orleans, the area butts up to the Broadmoor, Milan, Uptown, and Audubon neighborhoods and is home to Ochsner Baptist Hospital.

The hot spot in Freret is the entertainment district, an 8 block collection of shopping, restaurants, and bars that are also near both Tulane and Loyola Universities.

Check out the monthly Freret Market, on the corner of Freret and Napoleon. There’s a great selection of food, arts and crafts, and live music. It’s definitely worth attending, particularly during the holidays.

Freret’s predominant architecture is raised cottages, with some camelbacks, and arts & crafts styles tossed into the mix.
