I love the Freret St. Market that takes place the first Saturday of each month. Filled with food, local arts and crafts, live music and the most adorable pets for adoption, it’s not so big that you have to commit the entire day, but not so small that you leave feeling unfulfilled.
This past Saturday was the holiday themed market – dubbed Frerestivus in a nod to the Seinfeld created Festivus. Feats of strength and airing of grievances mixed with empanadas, Christmas shopping and a band helped put me in the spirit even though the temps were hovering near 80 degrees. The market was jam packed from end to end, but everyone was laid back, enjoying the shopping and music or hanging out by the most adorable pups and kitties that need a NOLA home.
The Freret Market is located at 4405 Freret St. in New Orleans. Follow them on Facebook to keep up to date with market times and special events.
