In a nod to the stifling heat and humidity, the National Night Out Against Crime in New Orleans was moved a couple of years ago from August to October. This year, the date is Tuesday, October 16th. Mark your calendar and start your planning for your neighborhood event. Whether it’s a huge blowout or just a few neighbors gathering on a front porch or stoop, it’s fun to participate.
From the City of New Orleans:
The 2012 National Night Out Against Crime is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 6:00 pm. The Kick Off Party for the event will begin at 5:30 pm at St. Peter Claver Church located at 1923 Saint Philip Street. Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Superintendent Ronal W. Serpas and several elected officials will be present at the Kick Off Party to participate with the celebration. If you are not with a group and would like to participate in the event, please come join us at the party.
Superintendent Serpas encourages all our neighbors, businesses and friends to participate with the 2012 National Night Out Against Crime to support the City of New Orleans and to partnership with the New Orleans Police Department to make this year’s event the biggest and best ever! This program is a unified effort between all citizens and members of the criminal justice system. The goal is to combat crime by continuing to promote crime prevention awareness and programs.
Twenty-nine years ago, Officer Kelly Marrione of the New Orleans Police Department began this program to raise crime prevention awareness, reduce crime and increase the support of local, state and federal law enforcement. Officer Marrione’s efforts created a great opportunity for all residents of New Orleans to participate in anti-crime programs, such as Neighborhood Watch and the New Orleans Neighbors and Police Anti Crime Council (NONPACC). These programs, as well as many others, are proven tools that strengthen communities and create better partnerships with citizens and law enforcement.
If you plan to host your own block party, please have a representative from your Neighborhood Watch Group, Home Owner’s Association, business, neighborhood or family call (504-658-5590) or email(email@example.com) the Crime Prevention Unit Office to register. See the attached registration form. It’s important that you register so your District Commander, District Officers and elected officials know where to find you and your group to help celebrate the 29th Annual Kelly Marrione National Night Out Against Crime event.
