Saint Roch New Orleans
Dubbed the “New Marigny” by some enterprising real estate agents, the St Roch New Orleans neighborhood sits just above St. Claude Avenue, between the Marigny and Gentilly.
Mostly residential, it’s anchored on the St. Claude end by the St Roch Market, an open air market serving prepared foods and craft cocktails. Some long time residents opposed the market, because pre-Katrina it was truly a market with fresh food and produce. Claiming gentrification, there’s been push back, but that hasn’t stopped the market from being a success.
Filled with long, narrow lots, St Roch is home to raised cottages and shotgun homes. Driveways are available on about half of the properties, but since the interior of the neighborhood is just houses, it’s not too difficult to find street parking unless you’re near St. Claude on a night when there are live shows at Siberia.
Average homes are 2 or 3 bedrooms, 1 or 2 baths, and around 1300 square feet living space. Larger houses can feature up to 2000 square feet of living. Homes in excellent condition typically sell in 60-70 days for an average price of the mid $200s.
