The Lower Garden District is tucked between downtown and the Irish Channel and boasts some spectacular examples of classic New Orleans architecture. Most people know the LGD for Magazine Street, with a great assortment of restaurants, galleries, salons, and boutiques.
Need a retro dress? You can find it here. In search of a great meal? The options are practically endless. Happy hour? Oh yeah.
Despite the medley of things to do, the Lower Garden District is first and foremost a neighborhood. From gorgeous townhouse style homes with double galleries to condos to mansions, this eclectic community has something to offer everyone. Assume that your Lower Garden District home will have been built around the turn of the century. Need parking? It’s at a premium here. The trade-off is how quickly you can get to downtown, the French Quarter, or the interstate – convenience is a huge factor here, as is walkability.
Green space comes in the form of Coliseum Square and Annunciation Park. Shoot some hoops, play a little soccer, see if you can spot the tire swing, sit for a while in front of the fountain, or picnic under the shade of the massive oak trees.
There are an active neighborhood association and a facebook group that keeps everyone in contact with and looking out for their neighbors.
