The St Bernard New Orleans neighborhood is the former location of the St. Bernard Projects that were torn down post-Katrina. It sits on the east side of Bayou St John, below Harrison Avenue and above I-610, just across the 610 from the Fairgrounds neighborhood.
Anchored on the west by Bayou St. John and a large playground, the neighborhood has some waterfront condos at a higher price point than the rest of the area, but the average raised cottage homes are among the most affordable in the city.
While there are several churches and community centers in the neighborhood, it’s a majority residential area that is car-dependent for most errands.
The average home has 3 beds, 2 baths, and about 1300 square feet of living area. Off-street parking and fenced yards are the norm and homes in excellent condition generally sell in about 60 days.
