Tagged as the “New Marigny” by several real estate agents (to the chagrin of the people who call it home), the St Claude New Orleans neighborhood sits just above the Bywater and is also part of the Upper 9th Ward.
There’s a wide range of housing available, from 100 years old to new construction cottages to ultra-modern contemporaries. Multi-family properties, aka doubles, are located throughout the neighborhood. You’ll also find doubles that have been converted to single-family homes. Off-street parking is available for the majority of homes, but there are some blocks where street parking is still the only option for owners.
Home to the Musicians’ Village and the Port Street Community Garden, you’ll find many churches scattered throughout the area. On the St. Claude Avenue end of the neighborhood, you’ll find several bars and restaurants, while the interior is mostly residential.
Home prices have crept up over the last couple of years, but the St Claude neighborhood remains one of the more affordable options for New Orleans home buyers, particularly for new construction.
