Some people consider anything upriver from the Warehouse District to be part of the Uptown New Orleans neighborhood, but there is a specific area we’re looking at here. Spanning St. Charles Avenue, Uptown is bounded by Magazine St, Lasalle St, Jefferson Avenue, and Napoleon Avenue.
Uptown is where you’ll find some grand real estate, with double galleries, amazing architecture, and some off-street parking. There’s a sprinkle of condominiums in the neighborhood as well, that were created by converting some big houses into small condo developments.
Average condos have 1 or 2 bedrooms, while single-family homes range from 2 to 4 bedrooms. Square footage ranges from an average of 1,100 square feet in condos, to an average of 2,300 in single-family homes. Don’t think you won’t find big houses here, though. There are certainly places with over 3,000 square feet in the higher price points.
Also located in the neighborhood are De La Salle High School, the New Orleans JCC, and the Poydras Home. Don’t miss taking a peek at the Latter Library on Magazine – it has stunning architecture!
If you’re in the northern part of the neighborhood, there’s plenty to do along the Freret corridor. If you’re on the southern end, Magazine Street provides world-famous dining and shopping. The streetcar line runs through the neighborhood, making it easy to hop on and off along St. Charles Avenue.
