West End New Orleans
Stretching from Lake Pontchartrain to Veterans Blvd, the West End New Orleans neighborhood is an eclectic mix of waterfront boathouses, high-rise condos, townhouses, and single-family homes. West End is often lumped into Lakeview, which is on the opposite side of West End Blvd., but this place has its own vibe.
It’s a little bit suburban, a little bit waterfront, and a whole lot of great location. The west side of the neighborhood is the 17th Street Canal that divides Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. What does that mean for residents? They have choices. Lots of choices. While the traffic on Veterans can be daunting at times, driving into Metairie opens up a world of shopping and dining options, particularly for fast food or casual dining. Head in the opposite direction on Harrison and there are Lakeview restaurants as well.
The northern end of the neighborhood is all about the water. Waterfront boathouses, two yacht clubs, and restaurants with stellar views of the lake. Stroll along the seawall, watch the sailboats or dine outside with a view of the boats coming and going from the marina.
A bit of trivia: while you can purchase a boathouse, you won’t own the land. It belongs to the City of New Orleans and they will lease it to you for the duration of your ownership. This can make financing a little tricky!
