A part of the larger Uptown area, West Riverside borders Audubon Park and the Mississippi River. Beyond the geography, though, it’s all about the architecture, the shopping, the restaurants, and the different services that dot the neighborhood. Need a new dress or shoes? A NOLA T-shirt? A cup of coffee? Some groceries from Whole Food Market? You can find all of that within just one block in West Riverside.
Searching for a shotgun, a cottage, or a large double galleried home? You’ll find all of that within a block or two as well. Most homes are 2 or 3 bedrooms, with 2 baths. Sizes, of course, vary depending on the architecture you choose. Single shotguns are around 800 to 1,000 square feet, but there are a good number of former doubles that have been converted to single-family homes offering more space. The raised cottage is the predominant style, but there are some townhouse-style homes as well. Don’t be confused by the term townhouse – it’s not a shared wall, simply a rectangular 2 story home with a double gallery (that’s a porch and balcony for the newbies).
The only drawback is the limited number of homes with off-street parking. The upside is you’ll be an expert at squeezing into a parallel parking spot in no time at all.
