Eating locally isn’t a challenge with all of the New Orleans farmer’s markets. Whether you are searching for the freshest catch of the day, locally grown veggies, or just some fresh herbs clipped from a garden that morning, your options abound.

French Market
The granddaddy of all New Orleans markets, the French Market is the oldest continually operating open-air market in the United States. Open daily from 10am-6pm, you’ll find not just fresh produce, but all of the cheap sunglasses you’d ever want.
Crescent City Farmers Market
The Crescent City Farmers Market moves from place to place. They are Uptown on Tuesday, in the French Market on Wednesday, in Mid City on Thursday, and downtown on Saturday.
They sponsor a Marketeer Club to teach kids about healthy eating and nutrition, offer a locally sourced pick of the week, and have great recipes on their website.
Vietnamese Farmers Market
You’ll have to get up early to hit this market since the hours are Saturdays from around 5:30am – 9am. Early bird and all, y’all. Located at 14401 Alcee Fortier Blvd., near Michoud.
West Bank Farmers Markets
Gretna Farmers Market
Just across the river in Gretna, there’s a weekly Saturday morning market under a covered pavilion (rain or shine!). The market also includes periodic Art Walks featuring local artists selling their creations. Saturdays, 8:30-12:30.
Westwego Farmers & Fisheries Market
A small farmers market is offset by several events throughout the year, such as Christmas at the Market (with Santa and caroling), a New Year’s Eve family-friendly event, and a spring concert series that features local bands.
Westwego Seafood Market
A collection of little shacks where you can see the boats docked, the seafood market offers more than just the freshest catch. You’ll find meats, sausage, tamales, seasonings, and more. This is our go-to spot for fresh shrimp and crabs. Since each booth is individually owned, hours may vary. 484 Sala Avenue in Westwego.
