East Carrollton New Orleans
On the Uptown side of Carrollton Avenue, stretching from St. Charles Avenue to Spruce Street, the East Carrollton New Orleans neighborhood is filled with narrow streets, raised cottages, townhouse style architecture, and a few touches of art deco here and there.
A walkable neighborhood, the St. Charles streetcar line runs along 2 sides of the area. Just a few blocks from Tulane University, it’s a popular spot for both students and professors, with a mix of owner occupied and rental units spread throughout.
Typical East Carrollton Architecture
Townhouse style homes with double galleries and raised cottages are the most common type of homes that you’ll find on the tree lined streets in Carrollton.
At the St. Charles Avenue end of the neighborhood, you’ll find plenty of dining options. There’s everything from the casual bistro style of La Madeleine to the old New Orleans charm of Camellia Grill. Other favorites include Satsuma Cafe, Babylon Cafe, Waffles on Maple, and PJ’s coffee shop. Prefer an adult beverage? Bruno’s Tavern has you covered on this end.
In the center of the area, the iconic Plum Street Snoball stand is a local favorite, serving up some of the best snoballs in the city. (Don’t be surprised if you have to wait during peak season!) Infamous dive bar Snake & Jake’s Christmas Club Lounge on Oak Street has consistently found its way onto many a “must see while in NOLA” list.
At the upper end of the neighborhood, you’ll find mostly residential property. But a short walk will bring you to the 5.6 acre Palmer Park, complete with playground, grassy areas, and plenty of shade trees.
