St Anthony New Orleans

The St Anthony New Orleans neighborhood is a subsection of Gentilly. Bounded by Leon C. Simon Blvd, Elysian Fields Avenue, Mirabeau Avenue and the London Avenue Canal, it’s conveniently located near UNO (University of New Orleans) and Ben Franklin High School. While there are a couple of neighborhood playgrounds and some fast food options, St Anthony is mostly residential.

With a suburban feel, the average home features 3 beds, 2 baths, and 1520 square feet of living area. Most lots are a minimum of 50 x 100, with some even larger or deeper. Finding a place with a yard is not a problem here. St Anthony homes have off street parking, usually in the form of a driveway with the occasional garage tossed in the mix.

The predominant architecture is the raised cottage, but you’ll also find some new construction homes in the townhouse style, complete with galleries.

Most homes on the Mirabeau Avenue end of the neighborhood are in a preferred X flood zone, while those above Prentiss Avenue are in an AE (insurance required) zone. St Anthony was extremely hard hit during Katrina, but has bounced back due to the affordability of homes in the area.

If you want a truly walkable neighborhood, this may not be the best choice for you, since most errands require a car in St Anthony. But the tradeoff is worth it to the folks who cherish their fenced yards with space for outdoor fun and entertaining.

Walk score = 42
