Easter in New Orleans
You don’t have to be Catholic to take advantage of some of the best parts of Easter in New Orleans.
Heck, I’m not, even if some of the traditions have rubbed off on me over the years.
This week, I experienced my first Holy Thursday at Dooky Chase’s. It’s a thing. A very cool thing. Complete with gumbo z’herbes and fried chicken and praline bread pudding and the need for stretchy pants when you are finished. I was thrilled (to say the least) to meet Leah Chase, who appeared from the kitchen to a round of applause and proceeded to make her way through the dining room, greeting every single guest.
My favorite part of her visit to our table? When she said:
We live in a city where people come together just to enjoy life
Ain’t that the truth?
As if the gumbo and chicken and bread pudding weren’t enough, today is Good Friday. Although it’s not a requirement to give up meat for non-Catholics, why in the world would I settle for anything less than seafood on this day?
Wishing you and yours a very Happy Easter.
