New Home Sales in New Orleans
New Orleans has never been a city with a large number of new construction home options. Pockets of new homes were built in the 1980s, but most of our housing stock dates back much further than that.
So, it’s been interesting to see the return of new homes to the city, as developers scooped up lots left vacant post-Katrina and put new construction back into play.
While there is a significant increase in the number of new homes in New Orleans being sold on a percentage basis, new builds are still a very small part of our real estate landscape, since many of the new homes you’ll see driving around the city are being built by owners to replace a damaged or destroyed property. That type of home is not included in these numbers, since they are not and have not been for sale over the past 5 years.
