Lower Coast Algiers
On the southern end of Algiers, across the Intracoastal canal, the Lower Coast of Algiers is a hidden gem. It’s home to two gated communities, Arbors Estates, and English Turn, both of which feature custom-built homes, most with sizable lots. English Turn is home to a Jack Nicklaus golf course and Arbors Estates is tucked into the trees.
Gated communities aside, the real draw here is the acreage property large enough for horses.
Custom homes are tucked into the woods of several semi-private streets. If you like to borrow a cup of sugar from your next-door neighbor, living on the Lower Coast (outside of the gated subdivisions) might not be your best choice. But if you want to feel like you’ve escaped city life at the end of the day…this is the place to find either a home or land.
Homes that front the River Road and face the levee are typically set way back, offering some impressive frontage while maintaining privacy for the owners.
It’s less than 10 miles from downtown New Orleans, but an entire world away in what you’ll feel living here.
What’s nearby?
You’ll need to drive up into Algiers or over into Belle Chasse for any of your necessities because there’s not a single business to be found here. The Lower Coast is about as rural as you can get in the city, while still being only a few minutes from everything you need.
