Moving can be overwhelming – just getting your stuff from one place to another is a feat worthy of a medal. But doing that and not forgetting the simple things? Almost impossible for most people.
So we’ve put together a handy moving checklist of the most important things to do.
Transfer phone service if you still have a landline
Turn off, transfer or set up utilities
- Gas
- Electric
- Water
- Cable/dish service/internet
- Newspaper delivery
File a change of address form at your current post office so your mail doesn’t end up in no man’s land
Use the online account maintenance feature for bank accounts and credit cards to file a change of address form
A special box for moving day is always a good idea.
Fill it with the things that you’ll be digging for as soon as you walk into your new home:
- Toilet paper
- Paper towels
- Wash rags
- Dish and hand soap
- Spray cleaning solution
- Paper plates, plastic utensils, and disposable cups
- Salt and pepper
- Scissors or utility knife
Most of all, have some patience and a sense of humor. Those two things will get you through almost any move!
