These folks have a say in what goes on in the 21 neighborhoods listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Their mission? To safeguard the architectural gems of these areas. So, yes, rules are part of the package!

Before you start any exterior work, whether it’s repairs or renovations, you’ll need to go through an application process. The HDLC’s design guidelines are like the rulebook, and you’ll want to play by their rules.
These guidelines cover everything from materials and design to fences, porches, and galleries. It’s all about maintaining the neighborhood’s unique charm. But don’t worry, you won’t be navigating this path alone. The Architectural Review Committee of the HDLC will review your plans and make sure they align with the neighborhood’s historic character. They’ll even send someone over to lend a hand. So, even if it seems a bit overwhelming at first, you’re not in it alone!
NOTE: The HDLC only has jurisdiction over property exteriors. You are free to make any changes you like to the interior without their approval.
