Irish Channel, New Orleans
We’ve told you why people love living in Gentilly and now we’re moving on to one of our favorite NOLA neighborhoods – the Irish Channel.
Tucked into a few square blocks between the river and Magazine Street on the edge of the Garden District, the Irish Channel has a wonderful, colorful past. While the roots of the neighborhood are steeped in Irish ancestry, the Channel today is called home by a wonderful mix of people.
But what do today’s residents say about living in the Channel?
It’s a very tight family! We all look out for one another. We’re all up in each others business like its our own problem. And it’s close to everything! ~ Crista R.
Great location. Great neighbors. Previously affordable although that has changed…..generally quiet for city living. Still have decent outdoor space in an urban environment. ~ Sarah A.
I love my neighbors, everyone is willing to help each other out whether it’s a cooking emergency (I’m out of thyme!!) or needing a ride or coming together to keep an eye on crime, they’ve got your back. It’s easily accessible for all types of transportation, tons of great shopping and food, and you’re never far from a fun event! ~ Melanie K.
It has a strong neighborhood sense with quick access to everything. Quick to the highway, #11 bus brings you to Audubon Park or FQ fast enough to run over a sprinting Kenyan, a short walk to St Charles and the streetcar line, restaurants, bars. ~ Brian L.
The community, the accessibility to the city, the food, bars, … hell when you live in the channel you don’t have to leave to get the full new orleans experience. That and we’re above sea level. ~ Aloysius S.
