Lakewood New Orleans Neighborhood
The Lakewood New Orleans neighborhood is adjacent to both West End and the Parish line, and spans both sides of I-10. The interstate splits the neighborhood into 2 sections, Lakewood North and Lakewood South.
Both portions are kind of tucked away, and while you can easily see homes on the perimeter from the interstate, it’s not obvious how to get to them. Residents love that traffic is low, since there aren’t any through streets that drivers would use to cut across to get somewhere else faster.
The location allows you to be in Metairie, Lakeview, or City Park in just minutes.
Typical architecture in Lakewood New Orleans
The average New Orleans architecture isn’t found here, since most homes were custom built and reflect the original owner’s taste. From contemporaries to traditional, there’s a wide variety of styles, but you won’t find shotguns here.
Lot sizes are generous, with fronts ranging from 60 to 85 feet wide and depths of 115 to 200 feet, allowing sizable homes to sit nicely. Mostly built in the 1960s and 1970s, there’s occasionally a newer home that hits the market, but that’s rare. The average home has 4 or 5 bedrooms and 2.5 or 3 baths.
Off street parking is a given, as are fenced yards. Square footage ranges from a low of around 3,000 to a high of almost 6,000. No tiny homes here!
If it’s a walkable neighborhood you’re after, Lakewood isn’t the place. Surrounded by major arteries, you’ll need a car to run even the simplest of errands, but that’s offset by the peace and quiet you get in return.
