Central City New Orleans

Originally designed by Barthelemy Lafon in 1809, Central City became a historic district in 1982 based on the significance of the Italianate, Greek Revival and Queen Anne architecture in the neighborhood.

The main street of Central City, Oretha Castle Haley Blvd, has an active merchants and business association that sponsors an annual festival in a neighborhood that is making a huge comeback from its fall into blight and poverty in the 80s. In May 2017, OCH was named a Great American Main Street by the National Main Street Center.

Home buying in Central City New Orleans

The residential real estate market is following commercial developments, with investors snapping up the neglected properties to rehab and resell. Have you been priced out of the Lower Garden District? You may find Central City is a better fit for your budget while providing the architectural interest that you are searching for.

Cottages with different finishes are the most common homes found here. You’ve got about a 50/50 shot at finding a home with off street parking, but garages are like unicorns in this neighborhood.

Located close to downtown New Orleans, Central City is bordered by Louisiana Avenue, St. Charles Avenue, Claiborne Avenue and the Pontchartrain Expressway. The closer to St. Charles Avenue, the higher the real estate prices.
