Tall Timbers New Orleans neighborhood

Tall Timbers – New Orleans Neighborhood

Located in Algiers, on the West Bank of the Mississippi, Tall Timbers was developed in the 1970s, when oil ruled the economy and the executives in town were employed by the likes of Shell and Chevron. A true subdivision, it’s filled with homes from old New Orleans builders like Crosby Homes, American Heritage and Wyman Construction. Colonials, Tudors and traditional architecture are the norm here.

Tall Timbers is a large subdivision, with winding streets, plenty of trees and big backyards. More suburban in feel than you’ll find on the East Bank, this is a community where the homes have fenced yards, mature landscaping and garage parking.

There are a couple of smaller subdivision-within-a-subdivision streets that feature larger custom homes and some cul-de-sac lots. A little secret is a collection of 14 homes that all back up to a shared community pool and large outdoor play and entertaining area that are not viewable from the street. These homes are sold with an additional homeowner fee of $1,000 annually for maintenance of their private oasis.

Also located in Tall Timbers are a bird sanctuary and an elementary school. There’s an active garden club and a homeowner’s association with affordable dues of $180 annually.

Commute times to downtown run from about 30 minutes during peak traffic times to 15 minutes when it’s not rush hour. If you’re in search of a walkable community, this is not the place for more than a stroll around the neighborhood, since you’ll need to jump in the car for groceries or dining.
