Pontchartrain Park New Orleans
Located in the Gentilly section of New Orleans, Pontchartrain Park was developed post WWII as a suburban subdivision for middle class African Americans. Streets surround the large park, giving residents plenty of green space for recreation.
Over the years, Pontchartrain Park has grown from a collection of small little ranchers and cottages. Today, the neighborhood includes Southern University of New Orleans and Joe Bartholomew golf course.
While ranches and raised cottages are still the most common architecture, many homes have been added on to over the years. The result is a mix of older, affordable homes, and new construction targeting moderate income buyers.
Some streets are in a preferred flood zone, but the majority of the neighborhood is an AE zone. It probably goes without saying that we recommend purchasing flood insurance with any sale.
Lot sizes average 50 x 100 with off street driveway parking but very few garages. Truly suburban, Pontchartrain Park is car dependant for errands. The good news is it’s close to UNO (University of New Orleans), Ben Franklin High School and the Lakefront Airport.
