Aurora Gardens New Orleans
Aurora Gardens (aka New Aurora) is an Algiers neighborhood on the West Bank of New Orleans. Fenced yards, off street parking, lots of trees and mature landscaping, and a very suburban feel permeate the community.
Living in Aurora Gardens means grabbing that New Orleans address, without being in the heart of the city, fighting for street parking and living right on top of your neighbors. The average lot size is 50 x 100, with some even larger. Typical homes are 3 or 4 bedrooms with at least 2 baths. The predominant architecture is ranchers and traditional 2 story homes.
Aurora Gardens is home to the current location of Edna Karr High School (a new school is being built on General Meyer) and to Norman Playground, which sponsors several youth sport activities throughout the year. Nearby amenities include local restaurants, drugstores, several fast food options, 3 fitness centers, and 2 major supermarkets.
While the area is walkable in the sense that you can take an evening stroll or walk the dog, most errands require a car, so if you’re looking to reduce your carbon footprint and go without a car, it’s probably not the right choice for you. Prefer to ride on 2 wheels? There are several bike lanes that wind through the neighborhood.
